First off let me just say that the Social Media phenomenon absolutely amazes me. Kids are staying inside all day now spending massive amounts of time on their computers socializing over the internet instead of face to face. And with that growing trend many businesses have picked up on this as well. Realizing that social media is an incredibly effective way to target various niche markets.

With that said, there are a number of Social Media Do's & Don'ts.
I will list what I feel like are the 10 most important rules to follow when marketing through social media

• Don't Spam

This means when you are one places like Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube don't just go out there and post a bunch of links to your affiliate pages and what not. This is a sign of a true amateur. Plus, nobody likes spam.

• Blog Like Crazy

This means you need to create a blog with something like Wordpress or Blogger and consistently update it every single day. This will bring you more traffic and more name recognition.

• Set Notifications

People will start talking about you on the Social Media networks and it's important that you know who and what they are saying. It's also very important for you to participate in those conversations.

• Upload Plenty Of Photos

You want people to begin to recognize your face and what your face has to say. This helps to create a brand for yourself. You want people to know your face like they know Nike.

• Upload Quality Videos

Just like photos, you want to upload high quality videos of yourself or of you doing something interesting related to what your products are or whatever it is that you are selling. If you are not selling anything, then just be interesting.

• Make Great Comments

One thing that will greatly increase your brand and your trust with people on Social Media is leaving a very interesting comment that will grab peoples attention and make them naturally want to find out more about who you are and what you're into.

• Create Profiles Everywhere

Make sure that you pick out your favorite social media sites and create profiles with all of them because as people find you on one social media site they will naturally start looking for you on others.

• Always Be Positive

I'm a strong believer in what goes around comes around. Basically that means if you are rude with somebody on the internet somebody will be rude back to you. Or worse, maybe they post that comment or message all over the internet for all to see. That would truly ruin your internet reputation. Be genuine.

• Keep It Real

You have to remember that people on social media sites are all real people too. So treat them like they human beings. They want to see transparency and authenticity. Show them that and you will prosper for the rest of time.

• Be Yourself, Be Creative

In the end, it all comes down to just being you. Because there is no one else like you anywhere in the world. If you can tie your passions and values into your social media marketing you will find out very quickly that people dig who you are just because you are being yourself. It's very powerful and very magical all at the same time.
